Title: file header problem..

recording w/the iriver, and i'm looking at a file that should run till the end of the show.  it is the encore...but basicaly it stops short, cutting out some time at the end of the file.

now, CD-WAV gives you that crazy header message, opens the file and then shows the cut.
none of my other software will open it all.

I've read the faqs, tried the "repair" and "audiohack" command line utilities, and both of them puke on it as well.
there were no issues at the time when I was recording.  stopped recording, it saved and then I shut it down.  that was that.

any way of salvaging this?

Hi Nick,
If audiohack can't fix it as is, then it can't locate the "data" chunk marker to determine where the pcm data begins. You can either edit the header (we have done some prior discussion on this on another thread) or import the file as raw into your audio software. Samplitude, Adobe Audition, Wavelab and likely others can do this. It's really helpful if the software can adjust the starting offset to the data. That way any incorrect framing can be adjusted. If you get white noise or swapped channels, then the frames need to be realigned properly.

From my experience, as long as you have the pcm samples in the file, there is a way to salvage it.

FWIW... as a last resort, I've had to fire up the hex editor and a good calculator on a backup copy of some of these... using this as a good reference:  http://ccrma.stanford.edu/courses/422/projects/WaveFormat/ (http://ccrma.stanford.edu/courses/422/projects/WaveFormat/)

But here's hoping that you don't have to go that route  :-\  ...total PITA, but it worked.

I second that emotion !

Is the file bigger than 2GB?

Tried an "import" into WaveLab?
I think that will rewrite or append header information...
