Title: this months Stereophile
Post by: Nick's Picks on September 29, 2006, 08:03:07 AM
All sorts of good reviews, plus the ol' 500 recomended componants list.  gatta love that.
the focus of reviews this months seems to be in PC based playback.  cool.

Also cool...a 4 page review and "fluff-o-rama" of the SD722, which the editors use as a fancy Ipod that can record.
Still, they really talk it up.  Makes me want to get one.  Iv'e been eyeing those 702 models that just run CF.  I could handle some of that action, but dont want to drop $1900 to try it out.

How much money do you have to make to use a 722 as an ipod  :o

No, stereophile hasn't lost touch with average consumers.

Exactly, some of us or most of us on here, ok me for sure, are prety obsessive about audio gear & what we spend compared to the average consumer & that magazine scares us ::)

I love looking at the uber gear on there that I may own someday when it is oldder & cheaper on the used market but how many people can really afford 80k speakers? I guess it is like looking at all the ultimate car mags or porno, most of us will never get to touch or taste them but it sure is fun to look.

Exactly.  I get it too and I really can't read any of their reviews, the gear they review is just too way out there...who the hell can afford a $35k turntable?   I wish they'd spend more time reviewing gear most people can actually afford.  I actually prefer Hi-Fi+, at least they do try out some more affordable speakers.

I really like The Absolute Sound. They still do some major high-dollar reviews, but they still review a lot of gear well within reasonable limits!
