Title: removing the r8 resistor (UA5)
Post by: run_run_run on October 07, 2006, 04:27:36 PM
I have desided I don't want to bring my laptop to my 1st outing so I need to digi mod my UA5. The easy way seems to be get rid of the r8, but it so small. How does one breck it off safely, can it be done without a soldering iron?

even if you were to 'break it off' there still requires a soldering job with a jumper, afaik.

" the unit that I saw had R8 removed (a surface mounted resistor) instead of just cutting the trace – this makes ‘undoing’ the modification considerably harder"

You still have to solder the jumper wire (step 2).  He is just saying you can either remove R8 entirely or just cut the trace on the circuit board. Your link is the instruction I used to mod my UA-5.  I just cut the trace, its easier all the way around and with R8 still there you can actually add a switch to it can run digi or stock later on if you want.

+T thanks for clearing that up, I will see what I can do with it.
