Title: Shure Beta 98 question
Post by: lushka on October 15, 2006, 12:29:34 PM
Hi,

Has anyone had experience with Shure Beta 98 mics? How small are these capsules? Are they a suitable option for stealth application?

Thanks.

You wouldnt want to use them for stealth.  The have a huge high-mid "presence" bump and the lows are rolled off.  Good for close micing instruments, but not for field recording.

Thanks for the answer. What is the best stealth cardioid set up in your opinion? Currently I'm using the following recording rig:

Microphone Madness machined Sennheiser mics > battery/bass roll off filter > MZ-RH910 (HI-MD recorder)

Can't figure out how to upgrade my mic department? The only one's that are a real upgrade cost 800 USD a mic capsule (Schoeps MK5) and that's a bit costly for me. I was thinking of the same budget but for both capsules. Any ideas?
