Title: Help Critique a N00b's First Recording?
Post by: Pogue Mahone on October 20, 2006, 12:41:22 AM
So I finally got to tape my first show the other night, so a big thanks to everybody on here for the invaluable information and a special thanks to Josephine for helping me so much.

So I would be really grateful if you guys could give it a listen and tell me how you think it came out. Its from the Pogues show at the Grove of Anaheim on Tuesday, October 17th. The equipment was a somewhat strange at853 caps on at831 bodies--->SP-SPSB-6---->Iriver IHP-120.

Thanks in advance guys!(Please be gentle lol ;p)

A lot nicer sounding than my Pogues recording from Guilfest last year, good job!

Sound moves a little from right to left and back again on headphones towards the end of the sample - moved your head a bit perhaps? Maybe its just my hearing though  :)

Sounds good.  What at853 caps were you using?  I'm guessing cards from the sample.  Do the 853 caps fit correctly on the 831 bodies, or do you have some kind of adapter?  If the caps fit directly on the bodies, I may need to look into getting some omni caps..

^^ I hear that too. That's why I'm guessing they're cardioids.

+T!!!

much better than many firsts I've heard including my own!  I too hear the funky pan at the end.  If that's in your whole recording that could be trouble.  if it's just sections don't sweat it.  Some omni caps will deff help with that!

Yes, the are cardioid caps. They fit the 831 bodies without the need for any adapters, the caps are just slightly bigger than the bodies. Yes I did move my head  towards the end of that clip.   :-X  Only happened a few times during the show, it was mainly because of my n00b-ness and also because I was standing by a rather drunk couple lol.

Thanks for all the comments guys!
