I've tried to place tracks with Audacity, but there doesn't seem to be a way to listen while moving cursor back and forth to get a precise placement of the track. Am I missing something? I would make the tracks with cdwave, but when I save the joined files in Audacity (file is almost 4gb--I record at 24/96) and attempt to track in cdwave, it says the file is corrupt. Maybe audacity can't hanlde files above 2gb?

What message, exactly, does CD-Wave give when you try to open the joined WAV from Audacity?
Perhaps Audacity's exporting as 32bfp by default, which CD-Wave won't handle. When joining in Audacity and exporting to WAV (prior to opening in CD-Wave), make sure to set the Project bit-depth and Export Format properly. Audacity workflow tips here (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=71191.0).

The most recent message is: Bad format-only PCM format supported. The file is a 24/96 joined file that is over 2gb long. I must not be saving the file correctly.

Yeah, I've received the same message when trying to open a 32bfp file in CD-Wave. Bet that's the issue. Make sure you're saving the joined WAV properly in Audacity, to a 24-bit / 96 kHz file, and not 32bfp / 96 kHz.

Yes, that worked. Thanks very much.

His original question is of interest to me. Could anyone help me out with some instructions on placing tracks with Audacity? I would like to avoid going to another application if it can be done well using Audacity.
Thanks in advance.

First, confirm Audacity settings are configured properly and you understand Audacity's workflow (http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,71191.0.html). Then verify the following settings:
- View | Set Selection Format | cdda min:sec:frames 75 fps (assumes you're tracking 16-bit)
- Edit | Snap-To | Snap On
Now place the cursor where you want a track break and press CTRL-B or from the main menu select Project | Add Label at Selection. Repeat for all the tracks you'd like to include. Then from the main menu select File | Export Multiple and set the export options accordingly.
