Beyer M818, Grundig GCMS 332, AKG D 320 B...
the names of some of the many vintage mics ( mostly dynamics ) which could be had cheaply from auctions in my part of the world, the first being a matched pair, the second a curious stereo mic consisting of two capsules to be stacked into a small tower,...
Are they any good?
Or are new mics simply much better?

New mics are not necessarily "better" than old mics, but you have to know which old mics to try. I'm not familiar with any of the mics you're looking at, so I'll reserve opinions, but keep in mind that dynamic mics, while saving the need for a phantom power source, generally have a higher noise floor and less dynamic range than condensers. Does that mean they don't sound as good? Not necessarily. Just have to evaluate them one at a time.
