Title: Mid-Side level settings
Post by: KLowe on October 25, 2006, 12:51:22 PM
quick question for MS'ers.

Do you set the figure 8 levels at just below peak or match the gain of the front facing cardiod mic?

does that question make any sense?

Thanks for the help.

When you run MS, be sure to give yourself plenty of headroom.
This is because you will get higher peaks after you matrix it.
So, I wouldn't let either channel peak above -8 or so......
As far as how much mid to how much side goes, I usually match them, then I adjust it so it sounds good in post.

this is what i have been doing, as well...

i must say it is really nice to run mid/side at 24bit so i dont have to be agressive with the levels (like i would be recording with a bit depth of 16)...
