Title: Nakamichi CM-700 mod
Post by: Big Muff on October 26, 2006, 09:36:07 AM

Anyone know how or who to talk to about chopping (not to be confused with hacking) a pair into "actives"?
I've gathered some info over the years while searching for a set. got Really lucky on ebay last week..
So, From what i understand they can be run on 9v, non?  but are instructed for use with an Everready type 544 6v battery.

I have the second to original "franken-Nak" LeeGeddy made me about 2 years ago.
it's the CM-300 cap/pre > AT mic cable > AT 8533 (P48v to 9v adapter thingy)
Looking to do the same thing here, hopefully.
if not a 6v option can be concocted no doubt.

I'm going to PM some of the ususal suspects, and if it helps, below is pic or two that were sent my way a while back.

Suppose i should add, I'll cover parts, shipping both ways, and especially labor.
Cheers!
-Mike

I have the CM700 pair modded by marc kim. It's the same mod as the Franken Nak, using the AT power supply. I would think busman2 could also do it, since he has modded the 300's. Just guessing of course and I'm not trying to volunteer him for the job.

I'm going to take some pics of the leegeddy modded 700's this weekend per a request from Matt Hiles. I'm not going to take them apart, since I don't know how. So the pics will only show the cable entry and no detail on how it was acheived. Only marc knows that, but according to my conversations with him it is identical to the 300 mod.

Hope this helps....

I can do the franken nak mods. I have not worked on the 700s but I would assume it is generally the same type of mod as the 300s and 100s.

the consensus is that the cm700s should be run (modded or not) with the -15dB barrels since they overload for pa based recording without them; correct?

Do you have the attenuated or non attenuated barrels?

neither.  i own a pair of franken nak 300s.  im just curious since there have been some differing opinions on which way is "the way" regardings 700s.

i've heard that they're useless withouth the attenuator barrels, but also that they are uneccessary.  ???

I don't know. I've been told that by other non-modded 700 users, but I've also heard from others that that is not true. My feeling on this has always been that the mod was developed using the -15db barrel, since it was an xtra and the owner would still have a functioning full size set.
