Title: which mics can be used with microtracks phantom-power?
Post by: jbrandtp on November 02, 2006, 12:02:28 PM
Hello tapers

I want to buy a pair of condenser-mics - mainly for studio purpose, but it could be nice if I could use them with my microtrack.
I have searched M-audios website for info which mics can be used with the microtrack (with phantom power only 30V), without luck.
Does someone here know if that kind of info is available anywhere?

Best

Jakob

You just need a mic. that can be powered from 12 - 48V phantom (sometimes quoted as 9 - 50V) - this will be in the range that can be powered by the 30V of the MicroTrack.

This throws out most of the best mics that are normally 48V +/- 4V (eg: Neumann, Schoeps, Sennheiser MKH, etc..)

As a start - Sennheiser K6 series is OK and many AKG condensers.  But the best thing to do is to find what you want and just double-check that it is 12-48V and you'll be OK.  If not, go to your second choice.

I hope this helps.

Check the specs for your mics.  They should have phantom power requirements listed.
My AKG 390 show a range of something like 9v to 52v (I don't remember the exact range)
and they work well with the MT.
