Title: iriver h1x0/h3x0 rockbox recording update
Post by: petur on November 07, 2006, 03:37:30 AM
The recording code of RockBox got updated.
People willing to testdrive can download it now and let us know how it's working for you.
Changes were made in the buffering and spdif. Settings are stored per encoder (wav/wavpack/mp3).

I plan to test drive it this weekend on my h320, and will report back.

Everything works fine...

However, I did notice... the new firmware has taken out some options with
regards to the clipping light... like at what level shld the light flash and for how long.

I'm playing around with it now.  When I turn it off, it doesn't seem to remember my settings.

BUT, it appears to have taken care of that bizarre backlight issue I was having before (where the backlight was staying on long after it was set to turn off for clipping).  Now, when I clip, the backlight flashes on for 5 seconds, just as it is set to do.  So this is great news for me!

I'll be playing around with this over the next few days, and will report back.  I'm curious to see if I will get any difference in record time recording in wave, versus recording in wavpack.

I love rockbox, and am extremely grateful to all of the rockbox developers.

I just got an Iriver h120. I have had nothing but problems with it after the person who I traded with said he tested it and had NO problems.  It likes to freeze and at times likes to say the drive is full. I have gone through the FAQ and the RoxBOX forum for help.

anyone willing to help me get this thing working correctly?

Keith

You should start another thread to address your issue instead.

I've played around a bit with the new recording code on my h320.   It seems very solid and impressive.  As mentioned, it has cured the bizarre cliptime backlight issue I was previously having.  The only "glitch" I've run across so far was that the battery indicator of the 2006-11-12 daily build wasn't working properly (the battery indicator got "stuck" at full); I saw someone else reported this problem on the rockbox forums with the 2006-11-11 daily build.  I switched back to the 2006-11-10 build and the battery indicator worked like a charm.

This weekend I will do some record time tests in wav v. wavpack.

I've passed this on to the person who recently changed some things in the powermanagement code...

Good to hear it's running ok otherwise.

FYI, I've done two concerts this week with the latest RockBox version and the result is perfect. I'v had glitches in the past (missing samples) which I now contribute to a fragmented harddrive which was nearly full.

So as a tip: make sure there's enough space left (plenty of space, not barely enough) and that that free space is not too much fragmented...

I will now go and enjoy my recordings :D

i will tape a concert tonight with my H140 and the MM-HLSC-2(sennheiser mke-40´s) cards and the MM-preamp.
of course i will use rockbox´ REP(recording enhancement pack) from January 7th.
it´s my 1st recording using an external preamp. only used 9V battery boxes in the past.

Petur:

Thank you and +T for the work you and Mmmm have done to make the iRiver iHP-120 the best 16 bit, bit bucket available.
I have been using Mmmm's November 2006 build since December and really like it. I just downloaded Ver. 070101-1940 and plan to use it this week.

used the latest rockbox to tape Muse recently...

No glitches at all... I would say the recording portion of rockbox is almost near to perfection.
Can't think of anymore features to be added??? Maybe except 1... The time the light stays on when clipped?

Am I misunderstanding something?
The time the light stays on when clipped can be adjusted:
General Settings>Display>Peak Meter>Clip Hold Time

how did you defrag the HDD on the h120?  windows or the iriver ware? what is the best way to defrag and how often do you do it?

I actually wiped the disk and copied my music back on (I keep an exact copy on my pc) - this is about the fastest way to defrag I can think of. For the recording I didn't copy all my music to get enough free space.

FYI, my disk probably got badly fragmented because I install new rockbox builds every day because it's also my development machine ;) - for normal use it shouldn't get fragmented so bad. Most defrag tools let you analyze the disk to see how bad it is.

RockBox recording code got another update recently, mainly to fix some glitches I've been having.
Bugs were found.

Anybody running a Rockbox version that's able to write more than just WAV (version after august 2006) should consider upgrading to the latest build. My last four shows have been perfect as far as testing is concerned.

Happy taping!
