Title: Good pre that is not portable?

maybe 1/2 rack or 1 rackspace?  Really don't need any a>d type of thing.  There are just so many around I don't really know what the decent ones are.  Under 600 bucks.  Minimum of 4 channels but not more than say 6.  Thanks for any help!
