Title: another UA5 question....
Post by: MULETAPER on December 11, 2006, 11:25:16 AM
Im sure this has been asked before but personally I ned to ask again.

I set up my rig this weekend and ran in a small boxey room for a challenge.this way i would get the best.worse of new gear in a box.IMHO best place to text a rig.everything went real welland got a better recording then anticipated.

Question: UA5 peaks>JB3

I read here that the ua5 should not blink at all or only at a high cymbal crash or bass tone.I noticed that my ua5 peaks before my JB3.if I tuen down the recording level its lower then I want.I see my JB3 not close to peak.when I use the meters on the JB3 I get a better sounding recording and not overloaded.

whats the best way to match meters?

seems oddly my JB3 Peak is on the money.if I run it exactly to the line and dead on and not over..BAM amazingly perfect sound. Some say not to trust the meters.

Am I doing the right thing here,it seems I need to adjust using my headphones thru the UA5 and let the JB3 just ride on it.

any thought/comments/help appreciated.

and thanks to all of you who helped me get my rig up and running!!!

The UA5 blinks at -3dB.  So a blink on the UA5 will show just below the dashed area on the JB3 meter.
