ok i haven't pulled out my deck in forever and i'm supposed to tape this local hardcore band tonight and i go to set everything up in my room, check the tapes and cables and everything and my deck is out of whack. it keeps saying "unload" over and over again. i'll play a dat and after about 6-8 seconds it just stops and says "unload". i hit record and it records for about 6-8 seconds and just stops and says "unload". i've tried multiple dats, blank and ones with shows on them. it really sucks. i've had it since 99 with no problems. guess i should send it in for a check up (or just get somthing new)? i guess this was the problem last time i taped as well, it kept stopping and when it did record there were massive amounts of static on the tapes (not just digi-noise). i've cleaned the heads recently so i got no other ideas

put in a dat, then immediately pull power (batt, ac cord). then turn on again. see if that helps.

wish i was at my house :(. had to come to work. what should that do?
-
dunno, maybe it will let you play a dat. eithter way send it in or get a new recorder. at least a
jb3 or irvier h120, bot super cheap.
maybe the foh sound guy will have cd burner in their rack, which is pretty common. if so just bring some blanks for show tonight.

I just wanna thank my co-worker.
Hes dat sheet.
don't leave yourself logged in when you leave work (that is my co-worker's doing above). anyway it's a small venue, just a pa, soundboard would be total vocals. i went and got my dat and tried that trick real quick. didn't work, but i kept messing with it and it worked for a moment. i'm just gonna run it and see what happens. the band has a mic that we put on a beam about 5 feet back so we'll see what happens.

good luck !

so how did it work out for ya?

Sounds like a broken gear on the transport. No easy fix, you will have to send it to Prodigital. I think it is about $150-175 for the repair.

Just thought I would mention that there was a post to DAT-Heads a few days ago about a DAT retailer finding a few new in the box M1s in the back of their storage area. I have no affiliation with the seller but thought this may be of interest for anyone that wants to stay with DAT for a while longer.

Hello all,
While cleaning up the back room, The DAT Store found two brand
new, sealed box Sony M1 portable DAT recorders. As most of you
know, there are no more DAT machines being manufactured of any
type: no portable, professional, or even portable professional !
So if anyone would love to get their hands on one last brand new
DAT recorder... please make an offer and I'll carry it back to the
DAT Store for you...
thanks-
