What's the deal with the ProTools USB stick?  Is that a hardware dongle or what is it?

I just saw one of those Sony mini PCs on sale for $1700.  It looked pretty slick.  It looked like the same model.   The display was awful small for everyday use but would be fine for recording.  In talking to the sales person they said it was rated for 4 hours battery time but that was based on a typical user.  He was guessing you would get ~3 in any situation where the hard drive was constantly spinning.  He also mentioned that over the next several months he expected several other manufactures to come out with competing models and the price on this should drop.  Said it was at a premium now because there is not much like it out there.

when did they start using a USB dongle for M-Powered ProTools?
I had a FW Audiophile w/ ProTools M-Powered briefly before I got the Presonus Firebox and it didnt have a USB dongle
