I am looking for some opinions on my new microphone purchase. I will be buying Schoeps, either CMC64 ST (cardioid) or CMC641 ST (supercardioid). I will use these microphones taping in small clubs up to theaters (aka Beacon) and even the occassional amphitheatre when taping FOB. I plan to continue to use my Sennheiser ME66 shortguns when taping from a taper's section at outdoor venues.
What do you all think?

having owned a pair of schoeps cmc64s, and always regretting not having bought the 41s, i am going to come down firmly on the side of going for the cmc641s. good luck - you will love them.

congrats on the future new mics lee. either way you go I'm sure you'll be happy.

i say hypers too :)

The closer you tend to be, and you sound like you like to be up front, the more you have to consider just the 4s, or maybe 4Vs. The hypers may just be too narrow if you are too close. Cards are the workhorse caps.

I'd go with cards - more versatile, IMO, useful in a broader range of circumstances. But I also like a more open sound. Besides, if you need to cut crowd or get "closer" (which is why I use hypers when I do), you've got the guns.

the 4v's are also an option, that slight HF bump is nice
-
If you have the cash, Schoeps CMC66 ST... :o
no need for hyper cap
-
the 41's can be used in any situation that you encounter.
i have used 41's for almost 20 years and have never been disappointed.
good luck

I think I am going to go with the CMC64 ST. That was my first choice, I am going to stick with my gut. Thanks to all for input.
