The last 2 are the ones that I had been hoping for...
For the 744t - last update January 14, 2007
Sound Devices 744T firmware revision 2.09 provides the following key fixes and features:
* fixed - scene name menu bug fix which also relates to Panasonic's Varicam non-standard u-bit behavior
* fixed - sample rate stamping; the SR was stamped incorrectly if <REC> was pressed after playing back a file recorded at a different sample rate. This bug existed for all previous versions of firmware.
* fixed - frame rate update on main screen after playing 48048F file.
* change - the SOUNDDEV folder is now hidden from the File Viewer. It still appears when connected to a computer.
* change - the ".BWF" file extension option has been removed. The unit will still recognize files with the ".BWF" extension.
* change - “Firewire Connection” menu option has been moved up the list. It is now menu item #2.
* change - DVD-RAM speed improvements. Now works reliably at 24/48048, 4-track, mono, to the XL-DVD-RAM with 3X media. This is an improvement over the 5X restriction in previous revisions.
* new - added 2 additional custom routings (for a total of 3 available custom routings)
* addition - low-cut and phantom control can now be linked. When you choose link mode, Ch2 is forced to Ch1 making them Linked. Front Panel Ch1 shortcut toggles Ch1 and forces Ch2 to Ch1. All other operations work the same. Note that low-cut and phantom are not permanently linked. i.e. once channels are linked, low-cut and phantom can be individually set for each channel.
* addition - iXML metadata for timecode and sample rate per iXML1.5 spec.
* addition - BEXT metadata for the recorded sample rate and the stamped sample rate. i.e. recordings with 48048F show file recorded at 48048 and 48000.
* addition - BEXT metadata added track name, notes, and take# fields
* addition - folder options menu with folders/subfolders for project, daily, scene, and name-your-own folder
* addition - now prompted to generate new daily folder (for users who are on a set over midnight). Before creating a new daily folder, the unit checks to see if one exists for the previous day. If so, it prompts the user to see if they want to create a new one.

FYI...
Looks like this release is plagued with bugs according to the SD support forums. I'd steer clear. Lots of HDD Slow Errors (media slow errors) and external drive recording issues. I haven't done the upgrade myself, but several others are reporting this. 2.03 is rock solid if you ask me. :)

i would upgrade, but if there is problems, theni will keep 2.03, because it is solid

Is this just for the 744T. What about the 722. ???

Kinda wondering about what that really means.. Does that mean if you press record after midnight it will prompt you about whether to create a new directoy vs. continue in the previous day's? If so, that kinda scares me.. I'd hate to hit record and have it prompt me instead of just recording. Worse, if the clock on the 7xx is wrong, such a prompt could happen at a completely unexpected time. Hopefully that isn't the case.

Ditto with mine. I just got it used and it had recently gotten the V2 hardware upgrade and was updated to 2.09.
What are the concerns with 2.09? Is it really necessary to downgrade to 2.03 before I try to use it in the field? I've done some short tests in my house using 2.09 without problems, but the rumors that 2.09 isn't stable has me concerned.

i have had 0 problems with the 2.09

The 2.09 problems from what I have read on the support forums deals with media slow messages. I *think* the only people that encountered errors were with the 744 recording 4 channels at or above 24/96. Maybe even 2 channels at 24/192?

what are the advantaged to the firmware
