Title: Broken Sony TCD-D8
Post by: cribble on January 15, 2007, 04:51:59 PM
Hello, long time reader, first time poster.

So i aquired a Sony TCD-D8. The only problem is that the eject doesn't work. I can squeeze it open with a credit card. But wait, the fun doesn't stop there.

I ran a test with it. Not looking too good. I put a dat tape in and booted it up... well, i say booted, but what ended up happening was it kept booting up, shuting down, booting up, shuting down. I can't get the bloody thing to stay on long enough to test record something. I've used both batteries and adapter, can't get it to stay on.

Anyone know what's going on with it? If anyone with experiance fixing things like this, i wouldn't mind getting it fixed (depending on how much it costs).

I'm still thinking about whether i should keep it or not...

if your willing to shell out cash to get it fixed, you might as well put the cash towards a HDD recorder [iRiver, JB3] :-\

See, thats the thing. I already have an iRiver H120. I checked a few prices for getting it fixed, but i doubt it's worth it. So i might sell it because of it's... well... state.  I'll give this thread another few days (for solutions etc) before i decide to sell it off.

Someone may buy it for parts. I've bought busted equipment to salvage parts to fix obsolete equipment. I still have a Denon DTR-80p DAT that I use on occasion. It's been reliable, and I don't use it for transfers, so I hope it lasts a little while longer.

Sounds like you have a broken gear on the transport. I had the same problem with my M1 and had it sent to Prodigital. Cost me around $175 to fix if I recall correctly.

Ditto, call Paul at Pro Digital, and describe your issues.  He can frequently give you an over the phone diagnosis, and cost estimate to fix. Worst case is you send it to him, and pay $35 for an in depth look, which gets credited if you have it repaired.

thanks for all the advice. I don't think i can carry out the repair nor can i afford to get it fixed at the moment, hence i'm selling it.
