Title: SBM>JB3 probs...any advice?
Post by: ellaguru on January 30, 2007, 04:31:43 PM
hey friends...ive stumbled upon a prob here in my new set up..perhaps someone can tell me that this is a normal problem!

my current a>d is a stock sbm1 and ran the connected dongle into my D8...never a prob at all..

just picked up a jb3, and since ive ran both a D8 & a JB3 off of my sbm before simultaneously (JB3 via 7pin female jack on the sbm>opti>JB3...it wasnt my cable) i figured this would be a good way to ensure that i came home with the show if my 11 year old D8 died at a gig   :'(    also...the JB3 helps me eliminate a DAE when getting the show to FLAC.

so i get it all set up here @ home:
1. Fostex D5>opti cable #1>JB3   signal passes a-ok
2. HHB CDR830>opti#1>JB3  a-ok again
3. NAK RX505>silver clad>HHB>opti #1>JB3  a-ok
4. NAK RX505>silver clad>SBM>sony 7pin/opti>opti/mini opti adapter*>JB3 STATIC
5. NAK RX505>silver clad>SBM>sony 7pin/opti>HHB>opti cable #1>JB3  a-ok
6. HHB CDR830>opti cable>mini/opti adapter*>JB3 a-ok
7. NAK RX505>silver clad>SBM>7pin/COAX>HHB a-ok   to ensure the 7pin female on the sbm worked

*= heres the adapter

so its my thought that the sbm doesnt send a strong enough signal for the jb3 to get it 'clean'?  or perhaps that the sony 7pin>opti cable i have is flawed, but passes the signal good enough for the HHB stand alone to get the signal clean...mini adapter obviously works (see #6)...sbm is clean as well (#7)..

im really stumped on this one...

you could get a CO2 and run the digi coax into it and take the optical out from the CO2 into your JB3.

bri..the digi out of the sbm is that goofy sony 7pin...then i have the sony 7 pin male>opti for the patch...it's attached dongle is the 7pin male which goes into the D8..

as you can see, the 'goal' is getting analog masters>wav @ 48kHz...i dont have 24/96 so its the best i can do.  i can obviously get to ana m>wav@ 44.1 kHz with the HHB passthrough...
