Sony MZ-R30 > Audio Technica AT853A

Hey, i'm new here and just wondering how compatable these two items would be as a recording unit? (for a newbie)

Thanks!

Hmm, I found this info about the recorder:

http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-R30.html

It uses atrac 4, which, imho, didn't sound that great (kinda dry and lackluster sound).  Battery life stinks with AA's.

I would personally avoid this recorder and look for something more recent.  Look at it this way:  try buying a recorder that allows you to digitally transfer your recordings over to your pc for editing and burning.  Plus, I don't think older Sony's allowed you to change the recording volume once you began a recording.  If your on a budget and can only afford a MD unit, look into Hi-MD units.
