Hello,
I'm new to this forum, so I apologize, if this questions did already appear somewhere in this forum.
Would the edirol r-09 and the Sony ECM 717 microphone would work with the phantom power?

i don't think the ECM-717/719 could handle phantom power. not even sure if they can have a regular 9V battery box. am i wrong?

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think the R-09 deals with phantom power either.

No it will not :) if you were able to connect 48 volts to it. You would see a small puff of smoke followed by a bad smell..

I was using an Sony TCD-D7 with the ECM 717 with phantom power for years, and now the TCD-D7 crashed. So I want to upgrade to an flash card recorder.

There is a difference between Phantom Power and plug in power. When you say phantom power around here its 18-52 volts.. When you say plug in power its 1.2 volts to 10 volts. Plug in power is what your Dat uses. Phantom is what a Balanced XLR on a preamp uses to power condenser mics. Plug in power is for Electret mics.
I was confused by your use of the term phantom sorry for the misunderstanding.

Yes that mic will work with the edirol but the built in mic will blow the sony out of the water for sound quality..

Yes that mic will work with the edirol but the built in mic will blow the sony out of the water for sound quality..

What would be a good external mic for stealth recording then? I once tried the OKM II Rock with my DAT, but I do not like the sound and it has the annoying "handy noise" problem!

or, get yourself an outboard phantom supply (real phantom, 48v) and run some condensers. Plenty of excellent performing inexpensive models out there.
