Title: SBM 1 Question
Post by: nedstruzz on February 23, 2007, 08:58:30 PM
Anyone know if the SBM 1 has a limiter or a pad switch?

Here's my delima.

A buddy runs AKG 393's> Mod SBM 1>D8

I transfer a lot of shows for him and every time I get the wave form into Adobe Audition the wave form is hugely brickwalled at -5dB and the low end is just fat and crunchy as hell and not in a good way.  Is there something that can be done either when recording or in post to fix this problem?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The SBM1 does have a -20dB pad but it might only work on mic-in and not line-in, I can't remember.

He could also try the -10dB pad on the 393's.

what is supplying the phantom power to the akg's?

also, is your buddy using line level converters to convert the mic level signal to a line level signal?

i used to run akg 391 > B8 phantom power supplies > line level converters > sbm-1 > d8 and had decent results. but without phantom power and line lever converters, i am not sure how your budy can be running those akg's.

Not sure what he uses for Phantom Power or converting the signal to Line level.

A pre amp certainly is the esiest solution but difficult to suggest. I'll find answers and post more in a bit.

Thinking the same thing Chris, what phantom power is being used and what is being used to unbalance the signal.

There is a pad for mic in, but not line in on the sbm-1 ...

Tell Brooks that Terry said "Hi!"

Also tell him I still want to trade for his JMP masters...

Hahaha, it was always hard to convince Brooks of anything...

Good luck!
