let me start off by saying first, that i know in theory, when you normalize, you are actually increasing the volume in some parts of the wave by some differential based on the difference between the lowest and highest point. and second, i have normalized almost everyone of my recordings and have not experienced anything quite like this before.
i now remember why i stopped fucking with this file months ago >:(
so i have attached two screen shots of the wave, before and after the normalizing (to -0.1dB) and as you see, the after shot has the wave completely wonky... it is like i just cranked the volume. i am curious if i should just forgo the normalizing with this show. although i do like the extra presence that the volume bump offers, it does also accentuate the stealth artifacts.
my main concern is that there is a section of the show, near the end, where there is noticable clipping of the wave and i dont want that to translate to the finished product with digi artifacts on a cd.
any tips or hints are welcome.
(oh and the recording is ziggy marley from 11-23-06)

If you have enough level, you have enough level. The wave file before normalization looks pretty good to me. I think if you want more trying normalizing to 85% instead of 95% You can always Undo if you dont like it. I am from the school if it ain't broke dont fix it.

yeah, i agree the levels look fine (in that screen shot) and i would rather not end up with the second version.
my only concern is digi artifacts when i burn to disc if i have too many clipped sectors.

double check the normalizing window in SF - you should have the radio button for Peak Level Selected - looks like you are doing average RMS level normalization which uses compression

plus tee, yo!
i did have the wrong button pressed (and i actually thought about that but was like, "no that cant be it, i never change it")
