so i've run this thing a few times and so far i'm happy with the sound...but i'm not sure where to focus the gain on this thing.
so far i'm running gain around 30+db and the output knob at around 0, then about 8-9 on the 671.
should i run the pre's hot on the apogee and back off the output and/or input on the 671?
keep running the 671 open and adjust the output on the mini-MP?
run the 671 open and run the pre's hot, and back off on the output?
i guess the output on the MP is what i'm most curious about...does it add gain and/or attenuate the signal? where will i get the most bang for my buck?

I would run the 671 at 40% and let the apogee run the rest. You could probably go lower on the 671. The Mini mp has( to steal a quote, "gain for days"). 0-+75 db of gain, thats a lot....
I would love to here some of your recordings with this combo..can you point me to some that you may have uploaded...

hey josh,
Doug told me when I bought the 671 to run it at 7, for whatever reason he felt that was the best setting for the 671. I would run at 7 and then adjust the mp accordingly, usually about 20db.
Hope that helps

i have only run the m148 in front, but it seems i was always in the 6-8 range on the 671.

i have not yet uploaded anything i've taped with the combo but will hopefully be doing so over the weekend

yea, keeping the 671 in the 7+ range is where you want to be.
keep that output on the Apogee set at 0 unless you need to drop it down

IMHO, analog gain is always better than digital gain. if there is an option to run the pre at unity gain for the output, that makes it easier i suppose, but i always try to run the preamp as hot as possible.

the dial on the 671 does not apply gain. it is an attenuator.
