i'm looking at picking up a home deck for transfer purposes and i saw a sony A6 with only 12 hours for cheap, also a tascam da-20. which one is less prone to wear and breaking? i know there are some nicer home decks than these but all i really need it to do is play dats, nothing more. any input is appreciated. thanks.

da20 or da20MKii?
mkii will be newer. the tascam's are pretty rugged and can be had for under $300.
-
da-20, not mkii. the one da-20 i was looking at had ~50 hours and was only 9 months old.
-
hmmmm, I thought that the da20 was replaced by the da20mkII. I can't imagine there being a da20 that is only 9mos old.
FWIW - there is NO way to check the head hours on the tasacam's.
Who is selling this thing? I'd be highly skeptical.
-
what about the da30? i have one offered to me on loan.
-
although it must be ancient or something - not even on tascam's site.
edit: found info elsewhere - should be better than using my d8 for transferring, eh?

yes, full heads are always better Armen

it was posted on the OADE message board.

I'd shoot him an email about that one. That is a good price though.

he said he bought it new in the box off ebay...dunno if i should snag this or not? anyone know when they stopped production of the da-20?
-
years ago. like gonads said, replaced with the da20mkII. the Fostex d5 is same unit w/xlr i/o and optical i/o. bomber machines

I'm pretty sure the da20mkII was in production by 1997.

yeah i decided not to buy it since there is no way it could have been bought "new" off ebay 9 months ago.
