I'm currently back to using my first ever pair of mics that I got from Sound Pros in 2000. They are AT933s which I did the "un-mod" to so I could run them with phantom power adapters and a UA-5. I like the sound ok, but have been wanting something a little more lately as I've gotten back into taping on a semi-regular basis. I want to get something that would have a fuller/crisper sound without being very big or expensive. Small mics work well for the spots I often clamp, and I'd need something that can handle high SPLs since those spots are often up close. So that narrows the field a bit (Would love some Schoeps actives or DPAs but that isn't realistic for my finances). I've always liked what I saw and heard of the Audix 1290c, and it looks like I could get a pair for $5-600 pretty easily. Is there anything else I should be looking for in that general price range? Do MBHO actives ever go that cheap?
I'm slowly trying to build up my PalPal balance, but my wife just smashed up the car so it could be a while before this can happen. :( I just want to know what else I should be keeping an eye out for.

I bought my MBHO 603/KA 200 Ns used for $700 and that was a bargain. Actives would probably run you at least another $150-200 used.

personally, I prefer the sound of the Audix 1290 mics over the MBHO's anyway, so I'd say go for the Audix mcs :)

Is there an affordable, low profile option from AGK? I was under the impression there wasn't.

there are active cables for the blueline series. but as far as I know, they aren't in production any longer, and they are difficult to find used. furthermore, I think it's a few hundred dollars for the cables, which pushes up the overall cost significantly. so, I'd say that you are correct that there isn't really an affordable low profile option from AKG.

Intresting..... the CK77 WR needs a supply voltage of 1.5 to 12VDC. I wonder if these could be run directly off of the R09's mic supply voltage?
Anyone here ever run these?

Those are cool, but what I didn't mention is I'm primarily interested in cardioids. In the little bars I tape in, having some rejection is pretty important for reducing excessive chatter. If those came in cards I might bite.
