Title: Korg MR1
Post by: Nick Graham on April 01, 2007, 12:53:55 PM
Thinking about buying a new MR1, and have been reading through the multiple threads, but have a few general questions I hadn't seen answered:

Is anybody running this at 24 bit? Everything I've seen has referenced the 1 bit DSD capability, something I have almost zero interest in...at least until the format is a bit more open with more software alternatives.

How's the A/D stack up to similar smaller units like the R1, R09, Microtrack, etc?

Thanks in advance!

same question for me  ;) I'm looking to replace my JB3 after the summer and I would like to buy something like R09 - MT2496 - Korg MR1...so please report your experiences with this last one (@24bit as nick said)...how the internal preamp and ADC work compared to his "opponents" and so on

Maybe you should also consider Zoom H2...which is a cheaper option (under $200)!! If you are only doing PCM 24bit it's not worth spending $600-700 on the MR-1. For $600-700 you can get 2X MTs with digital in option.

well you're right but is the H2 internal preamp really good compared to R09 / MT / Korg? I think I've got to wait some days to know that

anyway the thing that I like more about the Korg is that it has a 20GB internal drive...so no worry about the size of your SD or CF card or their compatibility with the recorder and so on

True, but the MT's A/D is seriously lacking - and it'd be even more expensive to buy a 24 bit A/D converter (V3, MME, AD2K). Plus when you factor in 20GB worth of flash cards, the prices are almost even.

I'm also a gear slut who at one time or another has owned a D7, D8, M1, D100, D10 Pro, DAP1, JB3, H120, Microtrack, R4, R1 and R09.  :)

That's quite the confession there Nick!
