Title: Stereo GiantSquidLabs Omnidirecional ... Nice Option?
Post by: Dark Killer on April 03, 2007, 11:22:27 AM
Hello guys!
I'm posting here because I need some help.
I have a Sony Hi MD MZ-RH910 and a Sony ECM-DS70P Mic, but maybe i'll buy a new mic.
Here in Brazil its very hard to find nice equipaments, but i've found a Stereo GiantSquidLabs Omnidirecional Mic with a battery box.
The guy who is selling this one, say that this mic have a "Bass roll-off", that give to the recording a better quality.

Now I ask you - 1) Is this mic a nice option?
2) Probably I'll get better results with the GiantSquidLabs Omnidirecional??
3) I'll need other recorder to use with this mics, or the mic works great with the Hi MD? (i'm asking because the batery box and the "Bass roll-off", because and dont know nothing about both)

Thank You,
Renato

Ps.: I've attached some mic pictures.

this battery box indeed has bass roll off. it doesn't have switchable positions (i believe it's at 160hz).
i made some recordings with them and they were acceptable. always had to boost the high's in the post prod though.

Don't do it... Squids are the marijuana of taping.  The gateway to less time and money in the future.    ;D

Do You think that i'll get better results if I tape with my nowadays rig (Sony ECM-DS70P Mic)?

What mic do you recommends to me? I have to have one discrete,  because here in Brazil, in almost every venue, they dont acept taping, so I have to Hide the equipament during the concert & when I'm getting In.

The mic that I have (Sony ECM-DS70P) its good, but I'm searching for something better for a Nice price. And maybe, with wires, because my Mic have wires, but dont come with clips  ???

Here goes a pic of the model of my mic:

IMO the giant squid omnis would be better than both of those sony mics.

How much does he want for the setup? How much do you have to spend on mics?

The guy want R$ 100,00 for the setup (I think its like 50 dollars). Its not a new one, its used.

I think i'll buy it, if probably i'll get better results than with my sony mics.

Who's that guy? Just asking because I live in Brasil too. Anyway, sounds like a better set up than the Sony.

Abraço!
