Title: Microphone upgrade suggestions
Post by: poppag76 on April 09, 2007, 03:21:43 PM
So I have a case of the upgrade bug.  I think I am selling my AKG391/93 setup and upgrading to new mics.  I will have about 1k to spend after selling and wondering if anyone has any SD mic suggestions.  I would like to go with akg480s, but everytime I have money, noone is selling them.  I'm just wondering what everyone would think would sound good in front of the T+ mod UA-5.  Thanks for suggestions in advance!

Might be time to start doing some listening to Archive recordings and see what you like.

For $1000, either new or used, you could get:
Neumann km184s
AKG 480s
Beyer MC930
MBHO's
Peluso's
ADK TL's

I'm sure there are more, but those are a few.  I think used Gefell m300's (if you can ever find them) would be outside that range, as are schoeps and DPAs, but you'll have a lot of choices at $1k and under.

the Peluso's give ya a lot of bang for your buck!!! I love my TL's but they are LD and allow me to run all sorts of patterns.
