I need to run a system restore on a Sony vaio my mom gave me. She deleted a bunch of stuff & the computer is screwed.
It's a nice one but I have no system restore disc. I do have my microsoft certificate #.
It's XP office.
Any advice?
Thanks
Jeff

Did she delete the VAIO Control Panel that might give you the option to burn the recovery discs off the hidden partition on the hard drive?
I just loaded XP Pro on a fresh hd in my Vaio and it was a real PIA because you have to have all the proprietary sony drivers instead of the regular XP drivers and it adds an extra hour on a reinstall and even then I couldn't get some stuff to work. They certainly want to drive you through their install discs to insure the sony bloatware is in your face.

I have done a clean XP install on our Sony K13. I had previously burned the recovery discs before making my attempt, but I never needed them anyway. You can get all of the drivers that you need and the order in which to install them from Sony esupport (http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/select-system.pl?DIRECTOR=DRIVER).
The only thing that I ended up needing to tweak hard was the hotkeys utility. Someone out there has a fix for it and I am positive I either bookmarked it or saved the files, or both. If that ends up being a continuing issue then let me know and I will dig it up. Good luck

Nice T+ to everyone. I'll post how it goes.
