so i've tried on 3 different computers to upgrade the firmware with firewire and usb. all either say "your player cannot start up properly. please reboot your player and run application again." or they say nothing at all. it seems like my only other option is to reformat, then hopefully update the firmware. any thoughts? i've got a show on friday and i know i won't be able to get it done before then with everything else i have to do. thanks in advance.

This may seem like one of those random comments coming from a stranger, but did you have the A/C plugged in? I seem to recall needing the A/C plugged in to be able to do a firmware upgrade.

yep, tried it with and without a/c, including a/c with and without battery.

Are you operating from Rescue Mode?
-
nope. is it possible to force it into rescue mode?

Yes - get a paper clip - find the "reset" hole on the bottom of the unit...
Hold down the Stop button and poke the reset switch
As soon as you see the "Creative" screen hit Play once...should land in Rescue Mode...
"Reload OS" is one of the options...
Others will have to comment from here - I've never really done an upgrade.

What Roving Sign said. I thought that you were using the Reload OS option. How were you trying it before?
You should cruise over to Nomadness (http://www.nomadness.co.uk/modules.php?name=FAQ&myfaq=yes&id_cat=6&categories=Nomad+Jukebox+3#117) or just use the search feature here. There is a JB3 FAQ in the recorders section that may answer your Q's. Good luck

so all of the above has been attempted. now it just sits in rescue mode. tried i super old driver as suggested on nomadness.... nothing. i'll see what else i can figure out, but it looks like i might have to call creative, which should be interesting since it's beyond its service life.

Don't necessarily want to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think that Creative supports these in any way anymore.
