Title: Newbie need some help
Post by: paxhell on May 02, 2007, 09:59:10 AM
Hi! I am going to record some heavy metal/rock concerts like Mötley Crue, Iron Maiden and so on. Next concert is Mötley Crue 5/6 Juni Globen Sweden. So now I need som equipment, I will use a MinDisc called Sony MZR-37 and  I need a "okay" mic not the worst hightech mic. I have search around here and find out soundprofessional is great and what do you think about these mics

http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/category.cgi?item=SP-CMC-20&type=store&template=reviews

Do I really need a battery module?

I dont usually go to concerts, maybe 2-3 times a year so I dont want to spend to much money, first I was thinking to buy Sony DSP07 or EMC MS907 but according to this forum its seems to be crap.

Thanks for any advice

I'm not familiar with them, but I am with the CMC-2s. They are a rugged starter mic ideal for rock music. Take advantage of the decent exchange rate and pick them up (or at least consider them).

Also look at Church Audio's offering.

I'm going to Crue also on the June tour..

Afraid so! Unless it's acoustic, your mics will most likely overload, and sound awful.

Chris sells his mics on ebay, and is a regular contributor here.

That setup is not really for high spl recording.. Look at my battery box and a set of my cardioid mics.

In all fairness I am not the right person to ask if my products are good enough :) You should also check out Sound Professionals and the Yardsale section here you might find something used.. I think you should let someone else answer this question :)

Classy response.

I think church audio recordings sound great. The cards and the pre mentioned make recordings that I have been happy to listen to. I don’t think theyre as nice as dpa 4061’s>MMA6000, but your talking a few hundred bucks vs about a grand. From what I have listened to I think church audio gear is a great entry level setup, and if your using it for stealth, it’s top shelf. I don’t think you can find the same quality for anywhere near the price, and if you decide you don’t like them you could likely get close to what you paid for them in the yard sale here.
