Title: Current device with automatic gain lowering?
Post by: person on May 07, 2007, 06:38:32 AM
Hi,

I was getting excited about the rockbox feature for iRiver H-series which  automatically lowers levels to prevent clipping (http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-h100/rockbox-buildch8.html#x11-1270008.11) but unfortunately iRiver doesn't sell these models anymore in Australia.

Is there another inexpensive device I could use instead of this? Mainly I plug into soundboards but don't always have time to do test runs or can't estimate how much louder than soundcheck the bands will be. Other than that I need a bit-bucket that doesn't cost a fortune in case it gets stolen during the show.

Much appreciation for any advice.

You might well be able to find just such a thing here in the Yard Sale section - there are always lots of folks looking to sell on gear. Other than that, I guess you can check out eBay.

Thanks for the pointers. Actually, I might be able to get one ofthe H1xx series of a friend with a busted harddisk and get a replacement. I was more curious to know if there are any devices currently on the market that would have automatic gain reduction, since I imagine more recent means more features or better quality  ;D
