Title: Help..Mic configuration for tonight, Friday the 11th...
Post by: badsneakers on May 11, 2007, 06:46:55 PM
So I'm recording a soul band tonight.  They have a great singer and an eight piece band so I want to catch everything real good.  I run C4s into an ACM mod 660.
The venue has a good sound system and holds around 180 people.  I don't expect a full house, it is there first time there..

Would I be better off setting up close to the stage and running xy or back at the sound board which is dead center and maybe 35' away?  I'm afraid if I'm to close I might not pick up the vocals from the PA speakers which are mounted on each corner of a 20' stage up by the celling which may be 12-15' high..  If I set up back what configuration should I run?  How high should the mics be?

thanks a bunch!!

Just a total guess from what you described.

I'd run back by the board dead center. Depending on the room DIN or ORTF. I usually never fly higher than 8ft.

Maybe run up from the board just a bit if you can?

Good luck post how it turns out.
