Asked in another thread, and I had these files all ready to share... the pre-amp had a BNC splitter, so both were direct out of the VMS to the individual decks.
Files available for 7 days, 100 downloads or 1gb of bandwidth...:
http://download.yousendit.com/793885866ED06417 DECK1 7.6mb
http://download.yousendit.com/A4ADAF1B1DC8FB48 DECK2 8.9mb
PM me if the files are gone, I will re upload them.
I will post the answer after a few posts... keep you on the edge of your seats

I think DECK1 sounds better, DECK2 sounds 'harsh' or 'too crisp' on the high frequencies to me.

I wouldn't I say that one is better than the other. They sound diferent, so I as far as I'm concerned it's all about personal taste. To my ears, Deck 2 has more detail and transparency. :)

Maybe its the converter I used but file #2 is definitely distorted for some reason. It seems like there is more top end but its actually harmonic distortion. File #1 sounds dull to me Its hard for me to compare the two because of the distortion.

Thinking back, the R1 was recorded at 24/441 and the r-09 at 24/48... and then (I am not sure, as I cant seem to find the info files) either I used SF or CDWav to downsample... and then they were FLACed up
Would you guys/gals rather I grab them straight off of the original 24 bid raw files? I can do it, but it will take me a few days to dig them up

Deck 2 sounds significantly better if you ask me. I can clearly hear a difference either way. Which deck is which? Were there any differences in the recordings aside from just the recorder itself?

Here are new files, they are bigger, about 30mb, but are 3 minutes of pure 24 bit unedited R09 and R1 files snippets.

File names are the same for Deck1 vs Deck 2

I've tried multiple times to download the files without luck. The link sends me to the Yousendit account registration page (registration required due to the large file size) but after registering there is no way to get the files. I've tried logging into Yousendit before following the link and still get sent to the reg. page. Anyone else having the same problems?

I registered for yousendit in the past. I was able to load large files. But now I get repeated Emails asking me to register (and pay!) for "premium" service or somesuch. Should have used a "throwaway" account I guess. Oh well now it fills my spam filter.

The files had already expired, they are only good for 7 days, they are reposted:
Deck1 http://www.yousendit.com/download/UVJpZEV6b0JiR0kwTVE9PQ
Deck2 http://www.yousendit.com/download/UVJpU2V0UnFubVUwTVE9PQ

And those curious, the 1st file is the R01 and the 2nd file is the R-09

The files you posted have me stumped. Do you still have the original samples from earlier in the topic? In the original samples, one deck clearly sounded better than the other. In the files you just posted, they both sound completely identical. Is there any reason why there was a difference in the original samples if the newer samples sound identical to each other? Was there anything different the first time around?
The thing is, with the earlier samples, you could go ahead and argue which one sounded better and which one sounded worse, that's fine. However, the point is there was clearly a difference. Even a casual listener could notice that they at least sound different. With the newer samples, to the ears at least, they sound 100% the same. I'm literally wondering if you accidentally used the same source twice. Something doesn't quite add up. By the way, just out of curiousity, were the original samples labelled the same way as the newer ones (deck 1 = R-01, deck 2 = R-09)? Thanks.

there was a noticable difference in the first set of files because the files were downsampled to 16/44.1k. I think the decrease in sound quality of the 1 file occured due to an error in the downsampling process.
I have been unable to download the second set of these files but I think that they sound very close alike because the R-1 and the R-09 are "brothers" so to speak so I would expect a similar sound to them.
-
That's strange, because it really didn't sound like a decrease in sound quality. It actually sounded like a different source or different recording.
I re-uploaded the 2nd set of files since you said you haven't been able to get them.
sample 1:

sample 2:

As for what you said, well in my opinion, they don't necessarily sound "very close" to each other, they actually sound identical. If someone can honestly notice any kind of difference between them, I'd be curious to hear about it.

I didnt realize there was still interest, I uploaded the files to one of my sites and added some notes... and labeled each FLAC file with the deck and described the setups
