Title: Rockbox
Post by: darktrain on May 24, 2007, 08:28:58 PM
Hey just getting started on this whole rockbox thing and have searched the forums but just want some clearer answers. I just got a Iriver H320 and want to rockbox it, someone told me to just use the latest version and then i saw some other posts about using Mmmm's version? Can anyone clearify this for me? Any help would be great.

As a taper, I would install Mmmm´s REP version which can be found in his sig.
I´ve been using his builds with perfect results for more than 20 shows since August 2006.
Go for it.
The REP has a custom-size recording screen which makes reading much easier and you can adjust the size of peakmeters etc.
good luck

If you want to, yes... but please make sure you install a version that is made for the h3x0 series. The version that Mmmm offers is for 1x0 series!
There is a link to a build made by Paulheu, but I don't know how recent it is. Don't use a version that's several weeks/months old. Bugs were fixed recently!

I would start using the latest official build and then see if there's any recent REP build. Only the official build is supported by rockbox developers, and it is the one I use to record and test.

His sig is at the bottom of his posts
Mine is a thing about good gear and bad position just below this text.
You need to find a post of his and his sig will be at the bottom of it

Title: for h320
Post by: bugg100 on May 26, 2007, 04:06:16 PM
This is the version I am using on my h320:
http://misticriver.net/showthread.php?t=42675

I previously used Kosh's build (PaulHeu) but this build isn't being updated while the new menu system is being implemented into rockbox....  Too many changes and revisions happening fast for the build to keep up.

The above linked is Norbu's version and the only updated version there is the NON-multi font build......  Maybe the multi will also be updated but Norbu is not maintaining that version and asking for contributors to help there...  REP is there on the non-multi which means you can run the level meter bigger.... 8x bigger if you want.  Also be sure to tweak the visible range for the meter to something useful  like -30 to 0 db versus the default which is like -72 to 0 db.

Is there a stable rockbox version for the 320 or is the 120 the only reliable one out there? I ask because when i rockboxed my 4th gen ipod it took forever to get fix it(very unstable), and i would rather not have to go through that with the 320, give me your feedback on this please before i F-up the 320

Sorry to hijack. I'm rockboxing my h120. I got the build from Rockbox website (it says its not release?)

Is that the best build/version or is there a more stable one?

Cheers,
Simon.

iriver h1x0/h3x0 and ipods are completely different beasts. For the irivers, we have about all the datasheets we can dream of, and as such the build is very mature. For ipods, we have absolutely nothing, so much of the software is guesswork which can make things unstable at times. Did you try a recent ipod build? Bugs get fixed all the time ;)

Yes, get the binaries from under 'Current build'. There hasn't been an official release but maybe that's because we're a bit picky on quality and can't be bothered to spend time on making releases :) I would say it's as stable as the original firmware
