Title: Cubase LE: cannot monitor the recording in progress

I just got an Alesis Multi Mix 8 with USB output and for some reason, I cannot figure out how to get sound out of my speakers or headphones to monitor the recording. The only way I can monitor is through the headphone out on the mixing board or after I save the file and play it back in Windows Media Player or Win Amp. Need some help.
