Title: remote powering a dell inspiron 2500

Besides cuttin an invertor and running off of 12v bricks, does anyone know of another solution?

I thought you had a power pad D? I may have been thinking of someone else but I think that is your safest bet. Maybe not the cheapest. Once I get my PowerBook, I'll be investing in a Valence or similar. But the PowerBook should have enough juice by itself.

I do have a powerpad, but I don't think they make a connector for my dell damnit.  I bought the thing for 100 bucks on a whim, so that is why I have it.  I love that thing, now if I could just find the right connector.  I thought about cutting the ps, but that may be dumb.

D- I have several connectors that don't fit my lappy.  Perhaps one of them will fit yours??

Well, I e-mailed elctrovaya tech, and found out I need a d model, the 20v version, and not the b model, which I have, and is a 14.4 or something like that.  Maybe the car invertor would take care of this..only one way to find out I guess.

I was thinking about doing the same for this PC laptop. As they don't make a connector to fit this laptop. But since I am still supposed to get a PowerBook I didn't hack the cable. I have a few so it would not be a big deal. But Since I am trading it in at work it's probably best if I keep it working as is.

D, try lookin' on ebay.  I got my wierd Dell rectangular plug & a 2nd AC power supply there for a couple of bucks.  Also instead of intverter, you could try a Auto air DC converter for your model that will bring 12v>19/20 or whatever you need.  3rd cheaper option than the powerpad or Valence that i've been persuing is to build a 19.2 or 20.4 NI-MH pack with whatever Ah you want.  You can build a 20.4v 9Ah pack for around $150-200 & a 20.4v 4Ah for around $75.
