Hi all
I'm a new taper from Italy. First off, big thanx to all of you for your knowledge, friendliness and passion.
I own sp's cmc-4u cards with the original 3,5 mm stereo connector. Usually I plug them directly to a korg MR-1, but now I would like to use my edirol UA-5 (at first I will digimod it by myself). The questions are: how to wire an adapter 3,5 mm > xlr (I don't know if the 4u are balanced)? Can I power the mics via phantom or should I use a battery box to provide plug-in power?
If anyone would help me I will be grateful - at least for the eternity.
Thanx.

Samson Audio - PM4 will do it. They plug into the XLR with power and you get your mic going in mini XLR. You could also go, Mics ~> Battery Box ~> Recorder, if you had to.

The battery box route is the cheapest. You can even build one yourself. Follow the link in the "greenmachine" thread in this sub-section. Any recorder taking a 3.5 mm input will handle the BB. That is what I do with my 3U's and they work fine.

thank you both!
Meanwhile I've built the greenmachine battery box and a cable adapter according to the wiring scheme attached. If I connect mics > battery box > cable adapter > UA-5 everything seems work ok.
Do you know if there is a DIY solution to build something like the samson audio PM4 or a cable like the Sound Professional XLRM-MINI-2 with phantom mod ? - it would be nice to carry around such a compact solution without a battery box.
Ciao

do you want to use phantom power? because you can still go mics > bb > ua5 > recorder with a 1/8 > dual xlr plug
the bb is the mic power but that way you can use the ua5s a/d

I think I've found a simple and effective solution wich may be useful for other tapers.
I've built a 1.8" > XLR adapter (basically it's a Y cable) ifollowing the scheme previously attached - in wich I soldered a 47 k resistor between wire and tip #2 of the xlr connector.
With this adapter you don't need a bb - the mics get plug in power from phantom.
Thanx again for your precious help.
