I have some old analog recordings I want to archive into an MR-1000. Given that the old analog players have RCA outs, what is best for connecting to the MR-1000. RCA out to a mixer with RCA/in-out and 1/4 inch mixer outs to the MR-1000? Or is it possible to go direct RCA to MR-1000 with a cable that has RCA at one end and quarter-inch plugs on the other side?

you should be able to do that. I would think it would be better than running it through an extra analog stage (i.e. a mixer of some sort)
a couple of these might do the trick... http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/RCA-to-1-4.html
