I'm trying to prep for a show in August. It'll be my first open recording and I'm hoping for good results since I can watch the levels, etc. obviously.
My main hangup right now is in terms of a stand. I think I'm getting it, although I would really appreciate some help if you guys don't mind. :)
From my understanding, it goes like so:
Main stand -> T-bar (or similar) -> Mics (in some config.)
Is that correct?
Also, since it looks like I'm going to need to buy the stand I need some suggestions. So gimme what you got!
Thanks in advance.

Yup. Though most stands require an adapter of some sort (which one depends on the stand) between the stand and the t-bar.

Check out all the pics at micsupply.com and figure out your budget and go from there. If you plan on open taping a lot you might want to invest in a nice stand depending on where in the section your going to tape and mics and weight are all factors. +t for your virgin voyage to open taping where you don't have to hide your mics.
Peace

Thanks for the replies, I took a look at some of the stands on that site and it looks like people use a straight, tripod style stand and put a T-bar on top.
What about something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Microphone-Mic-Stand-Holder-Mount-Tripod-Chrome-New_W0QQitemZ130134012222QQihZ003QQcategoryZ29948QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
That's just the stand I take it...if I were to purchase that I would need....?
Thanks again.
EDIT: Or possibly http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Musicians-Friend-Tripod-Base-Mic-Stand?sku=450826
But that's dependent on how high it will go..

that stand is not what you are looking for. the footprint is too small and in a crowd of people may be unsteady. search for light stands (photography) i use an amvona stand that was inexpensive and sturdy.
something more like this: http://www.amvona.com/?page=shop/flypage&view=1&product_id=2071

Ah thank you! A link heheh.. ;D
Although that may be a bit high for my budget, would something like this work?
http://www.amvona.com/?page=shop/flypage&view=1&product_id=2862#spec
And where is a good place to purchase T-bars?

Perfect, and with that I can rig up some PVC to fit the mics exactly..
Just out of curiosity, what did you search for at Amazon?

That would be great, not too far for it to travel even 8) PM on the way..
First show will be Wilco, Aug 29th @ the Greek. I'm hoping not to have any problems, although I don't think I will.
