MT 2496 cannot handle my mini me at any cost. I refuse to ever record in 16 bit so it might work there. I get horrible static, sometimes the pitch on the recording is way off. Never EVER had a problem with the mini me. I guess this MT 2496 is only really reliable going in analog.
Last weekend I recorded a show, mini me set to 24/48 my first file on the MT recorded in 24/44.1 The pitch of the recording was way off.
I just ordered a Fostex FR2 LE w/oade mod.
I know I cant got spdif in. But i'll always run sonosax in front.
I cant believe I am the only one having SPDIF problems with MT. here I always thought it was my flash card, now I know for sure its the unit itself,

Doesn't address the root cause, but FWIW that's an easy fix: http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,80888.0.html

The problem has to be the "auto sync" on the SPDIF. It just erks me that they claim its 24/96 when I cant even get a clean 24/48 recording. My fault I guess for thinking I could record true 24 bit for that cheap.

The "root cause" of the MT recording in a different sampling rate than the signal sent in by the M-Me (which also explains the pitch problem) is a simple flaw in the MT that can be easily addressed. In digital mode (via s/pdif) the MT should be powered down, the s/pdif cable inserted, and then the MT powered back up. The unit automatically selects the correct sampling frequency when powered up. Otherwise, if the already-powered unit has the digital cable inserted, it will not change frequencies, but will remain on the current setting.

I record 24/48 using MMe > MT all the time without any real problems. Make sure that you have the latest firmware update for the MT, available at the M-Audio website. Also, what Dan said is correct; be sure to connect everything before powering up your gear, and power up the MT last. Make sure that the MT is set to digital input. It works well.

I also ran mme>mt at 24/48 w/ no problems. As others have stated. Have every thing connected, powered on. THEN power on the MT.

I bet I know the problem. Your SPDIF cable isn't plugged all the way into the MT. I had this problem when I bought some monster cable to work with it. It seemed plugged in but wasn't. Static all the way. Goto rat-shack and pick up a cheapo spdif to test.
