Title: Suggestions on taping Orchestra with current gear
Post by: uncledrax on July 21, 2007, 11:00:19 AM
Hi Guys,

Im looking for some advise. I am going to 'stealth' record a orchestral performance this weekend and was wondering what kind of results i would get with the gear i currently own. I was thinking of using my H120 with a SP-PREAMP-11 set to +22 and using microphonemadness' MM-BSM-8 with MKE-2 caps. My main concern are the mics. Will these do the job? The venue has great acoustics (make for orchestra) but i will be sitting a bit far back.

I was looking at the SP-BMC-10 (AT899 Caps) or MM-HLSC-3 croakie mounted. Thoughts?

Thanks

Travis

Assuming you connect everything properly and press record at the proper time, you should come away with a recording.  As far as what results you'll achieve, there's really no way to tell you that.  You'll have to go give it a shot and find out.

Don't mean to sound harsh, but it's not really a question that anyone here can answer with any kind of certainty.

Thanks. What are peoples opinion on the MM-BSM-8 with MKE-2 caps? are there better mics around the $250 mark for stealth recording acoutic and classical music?

No matter how good the recording is you will enjoy it.  Just how much you enjoy it depends a lot on the quality of the recording.  Go for it!   8)

the MKE-2 are VERY good microphones.  You will have a hard time finding a better pair of mics at that price....

If I'm reading the venue layout correctly you should easily walk away with a good recording.

Haven't used those mics. Thanks for the link. They have low output. I think you will need about 50-60 db gain on them. I'd try to sit in the front row.
