Ok, this is my virgin post. I may be a stranger here, but not over at Gearslutz (am I allowed to so that here? ???), I go by the same name over there. I was just introduced to this forum by a fellow GS member... yes I think we are going to flood this forum now like a bunch of illegal immigrant posters....
Anyway, I am moving to all mobile recording, and although it will involve many types of sources, my main concern is acoustic guitar, strummed, flatpicked, fingerpicked, you name it.
For AKG 451EB mics, the vintage FET based mics, would the MiniMe or the V3 provide the "best" sound? Since "best" is relative, and being a GS member, I know good and well there is no "best", what I want is your professional and amateur opnion. My semi-pro hobby will depend upon the answers I receive here.
V3 or MiniMe with 451EB for acoustic guitar?
wes
ps. I'd ask this over at GS, but I know you folks have more experience in this field. Besides you guys are allegedly more professional. 8)

Can't help you, but welcome, Wes!

Personally, I have liked my c452eb's
behind in front of a MiniMe much better than a V3.
While I like the 'transparent' sound of the V3 better with 414s, I think the more 'rounded' or colored sound of the MiniMe matches better with the 45x series due to their inherent emphasis in the higher frequencies. YMMV, however.
My favorite pre to run behind them is an Aerco, and I think all AKG mics sound best behind in front of a transformer pre. ;D
Edited for foolishness

I think all AKG mics sound best behind a transformer pre. ;D
:P
I know what you meant, but it still struck me as being pretty damn funny...

Fixed that Dirk :)
Reminder to self: re-read/edit posts better when still un-caffeinated in the am. Doh...

I think I may agree. When I had the Hamptone JFET pre my 451's were beautiful. Don't know why I ever sold the Hampy. But thanks for the info fellas.

i'd try for a V2 > Minime, you get the best of both worlds the grace pre and the apogee A/D
and a v2>mme used will run you about the same as a new v3...just a slutty thought >:D
