Title: Experience with SP-TFB-2?
Post by: natas43 on July 24, 2007, 11:00:08 AM
Does anyone have any experience using  SP-TFB-2's?  I currently use CSBs with a battery box and bass roll off filter, but was looking for something to use in the instance where the battery box will set off a metal detector (there is a venue in my home town that I cannot get a battery box in....).

Those were the very first mics I've used. They can sound pretty decent if you are a headphone user,
but not that good with speakers. In my experience, you can avoid that  using the SP-TFB-2 outside the ear (like any regular mic). But keep in mind that you may find yourself in trouble without a bass roll-off unit (they can pick up an astounding amount of bass).

I bought a pair and used them with a Church Audio 9100 preamp into an R-09 with good results. For $80 mics they sound pretty nice. They do pick up a lot of bass, so beware. But I used 'em without rolloff at a pretty bassy small club show and the recording came out surprisingly good. That said, I've only taped a handful of shows with 'em (all small clubs), so I don't have a lot of experience with their sound.

Thanks for the input.  I may just get a second set of CSBs with the battery box......
