Title: Powered vs. Passive Mixer
Post by: stlawrence on August 13, 2007, 11:55:35 AM
I've got a question for anyone with experience using a PA in live performance. I've got two Samson Expedition XP 200 powered speakers that I've been running out of a Mackie DFX 6 without problem for solo shows.

I'm looking to buy a mixer with more inputs for my band, which will be louder as well.

I'm down to either the Mackie DFX 12
(http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Mackie-DFX12-12x2-Mixer-with-Effects?sku=634264&src=3WFRWXX)

or the Behringer PMH 1000 (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-PMH1000-Europower-Powered-Mixer-?sku=631252)

Would a powered mixer plus powered speakers improve the sound or just cause trouble? Mackie has a solid reputation, but I don't know much about Behringer.

Any thoughts?

you don't want to send a powered signal to self powered speakers. that's a big no-no.
avoid powered mixers....let the mixer do the mixing and the amp handle the power.
