i just bought a new akg perception 400 to lay down some vocals for an album but can only record with one channel through my ad20 (i use the akg->ps-2->ad-20->optical->jb3). are there any other parts i could use to record both channels through my ad-20 instead of the single left or right channel? i like to monitor the vocals during production and would rather them be recorded on the jb3 as both channels instead of duplicating the channel in post. any help is greatly appreciated!

what kind of parts would i need? would it just be a cable that has an xlr on one end and then splits into 2 female xlrs or perhaps a box that keeps the signal at the rite rate instead of reducing it? any links to products?

The XLR splitter you need will have 1 XLR-female and 2 XLR-male. Most musicians stores I've been in have these in stock.

i guess i have another question now about this working with a different preamp. i just bought a stock ua-5 (purposefully) and am wondering if it would work akg>splitter>ua-5 where the difference here being the phantom power being provided by the preamp instead of the ps-2. would this send too much power to the mic and mess it up or is this a possible thing to do?

What recording program are you using? What recording equipment (sound card) ?
Every program I have ever used allows setting up a mono channel for recording. That mono channel is then panned in the middle, equally loud in both channels. To me it sounds daft to use splitters and things like that.
Monitoring of the sound could be either in hardware or in your program. Many soundcards has some kind of "direct monitoring" function, where the monitoring of sound is done in hardware. The reason is that going into the computer and out again can take enough time to be noticeable, this is called latency. Other solutions often used are to have a small mixer and creating the monitoring function there.

for best results, i think i would save for another mic like the one you just bought and then you would have the ideal stereo recording you seek.

i guess looking at the ua-5 i might have it figured out but someone correct me if im wrong. since there is a button for phantom power on the ua-5 that can be shut on and off (it seems at least) so then i can do the following config:
akg>cable>ps-2 for power>splitter>ua-5 phantom power off>usb
