What is an effective way of bringing up the treble on a recording I have. My recordings are always high on bass, which I figured out how to correct but I could never really get it equalized with Audacity.
Is there another program that is better at equalizing shows and bringing up the treble?

There are lots of programs better than Audacity, just none I know of that are free. Try Effects | EQ or some such and play around with the EQ graph.
If you want to spend some money and are willing to deal with a bit of a steeper / longer learning curve, there's Samplitude SE v9 for ~$50.

and you might first try reducing the bass rather than boosting the highs. food for thought.

Yes, likely you will need to do a cut of some of the bass frequencies.
A good tool for equalization is harbal. http://www.har-bal.com/
This will draw a frequency trace of where the peak energy is. You can use it to identify the frequencies that need attention. I recommend buying this program and supporting the programming effort. But you can just as easily use some other program for eq.
When you do a cut in harbal, it boosts all other frequencies by minute amount so that your overall level remains the same.

Cool thanks.
Thoes all look like good programs. I will try reducing the bass more and see what happens. I figured that audacity was a little limited.
I am not sure what frequency does to the sound. I don't know what is good and what is bad.
Thanks

The best way to learn about frequencies and how they sound is just to play with an equalizer. Or nowadays, software that acts like an equalizer. It's all about training your ears. It helps to have a fairly flat eq playback system.

reducing bass in audacity:
-select the whole wave-form
-effects/HPF(high pass filter)
set the value to ie. 133Hz and check the result
higher value => more bass is being removed from your recording
for boosting treble i use adobe audition (former "cool edit")...it´s a pain with audacity ;).

Audacity is hardly limited for this task...
The HPF is one solution...
Effects > Equalization also works fine...just play with it...
If you want to roll off the bass at 100hz - click once at 100, go all the way to left (bass) and pull down to create the slope (the amount of the cut..)
You can make a custom curve for each recording...The left is the bass...as your move to the right, you move to higher frequencies...the up and down is the amount you add or subtract.
just off the top of my head - like this would brighten things up...

Sweet! I think I will give that a try too. I did try the equalization funtion and it gave me a weird whawha effect. It also seem to lessen the quality of the recording.
Thanks for all the help
