Going to give my new MT a run tomorrow, but not having used it before I'm unsure about levels. I'll be using S/PDIF, so aside from making the UA5 peak light flicker, what level should I reach for on the MT?

DON'T make the peak light flicker (or at least focus on it flickering)
set the advance switch (on the back) to ON
set the knob on the front to 48/96
those 2 settings will give you 24/48 or 96
adjust the gain knobs so that the "slow delay" bars on the MT are at peaking around the -4db on the MT
you can see in this image where that is http://www.sonicstudios.com/mt2496rv.htm
set your mt to spdif and automatic sample rate
you are good to go at 24 bit5 and will not have to worry about clipping

I had the same discussion a while ago. Here is what I found out...

From what I found out the levels on the MT are disabled and you only have to mess with the gain settings on the UA-5. I have yet to try using the MT but will have 5 shows in about a months time so I should be getting pretty good here soon.
Hope that helps!

This is great advice. Once I figured it out I was able to set my levels better with the MT than I ever could with my M1 DAT.
The UA-5 > MT is a really good combo!

Great Combo.
