il be taping primus friday night, chicago- aragon- and will be doing my first 3 mic mix
wondering what mic orientation would suit me best. ive never even been to the aragon!
im running 2 microtech gefell m300s (fixed cards) and mixing in one nak cm300 (cp2 cap- omni)
on the gefells --- xy, din, ortf??? this will be my first time indoors at a place of decent size and also first time indoors with the gefells!
and what about the omni??? just straight forward?
il be running these into a warm mod ua5 also, if that matters

Run the Gefell's ortf split a little further than usual, with the omni in the middle.

I'm thinking of getting the UA-5 to do this sort of thing. How do you mix in the omni? Through RCA inputs? Do you split the output of a separate pre-amp into the 2 RCA in's? Can you control the levels somehow too?
That UA-5 is pretty versatle isn't it? ???

i use a radio shack transformer that is xlr > 1/4"(m), then a 1/4"(f) - 1/4"(f) , and finally a 1/4"(m) - dual mono rca and run the mono rcas into the rca inputs of the ua5
i will shortly be getting a hosa mit-176 transformer with a rca end mod (from oade) and will eliminate alot of the bullshit that makes me nervous. but you have to have the transformer in there

and yes there is a adjustment on the rca inputs, i believe all the way turned up is tp just line level if im not mistaken

But a separate mic pre-amp would work if I didn't go the transformer route. The transformer in your rig brings the microphone level up to line level.
Those UA-5's really are the shitznitz. :)

this is what you need with the ua-5
together
-
apart
you will also need phantom power as well
I use one of those art II things 45 bucks at yer local music store

I taped my first 3 mic mix 2 weeks ago and it came out awesome
it was hypers din with one omni
I want to try 2 omnis with one hyper
-
uyeah, thats the stuff i have. i just use internal power in my nak cm300, as it is 9v internally powered.

ran the gefells about 20cm and 100* and the omni straight ahead
tapes came out great, considering the venue (aragon ballroom)
